The Montmartre of Renoir

At the Musee Montmartre in Paris, which overlooks the garden of Renoir and other painters, is this drawing by an artist visiting Paris in about 1900.  Visiting there I was surprised to see it and understand that the Montmartre of Renoir, Van Gogh, and many others was in most places like a crowded but peaceful shanty town – far less developed than Greenwich Village
